The Geriatric Section of the Department of Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine includes three faculty members who provide services for the care of the elderly outpatients at the Harriett Darnell Geriatric Center at Grady Hospital in downtown Atlanta.

Dr. Akomolafe, the section chief, is involved in research on Genetic Epidemiology of Alzheimer Disease. As the section chief for Geriatrics, her emphasis for the residents is to develop them as excellent physicians caring for our elderly population. As we all know the demographics of the population in the United States have changed and over 13% of the population is over the age of 65 years. Over six residents have gone on to complete a fellowship in geriatrics.
